Giving Back to God Financially

Money can be a touchy subject. That’s probably because it means so much to us. Jesus talked about money, our bling bling, our stuff… a lot. In fact, He made a radical statement. He described money as our heart out walking about.

At First Wesleyan, there are many who are realizing that everything we have is God’s. We are simply managing His stuff, not ours. As we contribute a percentage to Christ’s mission, we are really bringing back to God a small part of something that was never ours to begin with.

We appreciate the tithes and financial gifts you give to First Wesleyan Church to help us grow and expand our ministry in Rapid City. We offer the following options for contributing financially:

  • The Offering Plate During our Worship Services, offering plates are placed at the back of the Sanctuary. Feel free to use the envelopes provided to enclose your contribution or just drop it in the offering plate as you leave the Sanctuary.
  • By Mail Send your check to First Wesleyan Church, 3040 Marlin Drive, Rapid City, SD 57703
  • Secure Online Giving Consider contributing with an Automatic Checking Withdrawal (ACH) through our Elexio Giving user portal. You may also contribute with your debit or credit card but please keep in mind that if you choose this option, First Wesleyan pays a larger additional processing fee for all card transactions compared to only a $0.39 processing fee for all ACH transactions.

All contributions will be put toward our general budget unless otherwise specified.

What Does the Bible Say About Giving?

BRINGING A TENTH OF MY INCOME BACK TO GOD IS ESSENTIAL TO BEING A faithful WORSHIPPER. “Make an offering of ten percent, a tithe … in this way you will learn to live in deep reverence before GOD…” Deut. 14:22

WRITING MY FIRST CHECK TO GOD PUTS HIM FIRST IN MY LIFE. “Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Then He will fill your barns…” Proverbs 3:9

BRINGING BACK TO GOD IS INTENDED TO BE PROPORTIONAL. “On every Lord’s Day, each of you should put aside some amount of money in relation to what you have earned…” I Corinthians 16:2

IT EXCITES GOD TO SEE US GROWING IN OUR GENEROSITY. “I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over, and make up your own mind what you will give…God loves it when the giver delights in the giving.” II Corinthians 9:7

Why Should I Give Back to God?

  • Giving back to God is essential for me to grow in my spiritual life.  
  • Giving back to God supports the mission Christ has given us to help many more become followers of Him.  
  • Giving back to God at First Wesleyan allows me to be a part of the impact we have in the Rapid City area…and beyond.

What Should I Give Back?

  • Jesus called His followers to bring back to God a minimum of 10% of their income. This is also called a tithe.
  • From time to time, Christ followers would take up a special collection. It went above and beyond their regular tithe and was called an offering. Offerings are a way to honor God sacrificially.

Is My Gift Tax Deductible?

  • All contributions are 100% tax-deductible.
  • Please note that your contact info must accompany your contribution for your gift to be tax-deductible.
  • Giving statements are mailed out at the end of the year, to help you keep track of your giving.
